Inspired by an Instagram Post by Chris Do
In his post Chris Do talks us through the Sandwich Technique for giving a critic.
It goes a little something like this:
Start by focusing on what is currently working.
Give specific and constructive criticism. What can be improved?
Always end on a genuine positive note.
Chris is smashing it with his instagram carousel posts at the moment, I can barely keep up with reading them let alone making nudenotes on them!
I am trying to note down as many as I can and will be sharing them soon. Watch this space.
I am going to work on a blog article about my process of turning Instagram carousels into nudenotes.

How To Receive Criticism and Event + Reaction = Outcome

Do you love Chris Do’s Instagram Carousels?
So do I, how can you not!
All his business of design wisdom distilled into a handy 10 slide format.
But, this quickly turned into a problem...
It felt like I wasn't really absorbing the information. I was just reading it.
In 10 minutes of Instagram scrolling I can read through 30 of these amazing carousels, without actually learning anything - This sucked!
It doesn't do justice to the content or Chris' work. So I picked up a pen and my journal, and started to make nudenotes as fast as my hands could move.
Now I have started to build a new niche of nudenotes.
Expect to see more nudenotes based on Instagram Carousels coming soon.
Leave a comment below with you favourite carousel creators, would love to explore new perspectives and ideas.
How to Handle Criticism — Mindset Changes and Action
Inspired by a handy infographic I discovered on the earthofmaria.com blog.
How well do you handle criticism?
The key to receiving or giving good criticism is understanding the difference between destructive and constructive mindset.
As creative professionals, criticism is a never far away.
The best way to learn how to differentiate constructive from destructive, is to shape how you react accordingly.
Criticism is an essential part of any creative process, and super important in your own growth.
It doesn’t actually matter if you agree or not — this is pretty irrelevant.
You need to be able to put aside any personal opinions in order to deliver the best solution for your client and target audience.
What do you struggle with when receiving criticism?
How do you respond?

How to Give and Receive Design Critique Well
Inspired by an article by Andrew Wilshere on trydesignlabs.com
Do you hate getting your work critiqued?
I think we all do, right?
I was so pleased to have stumbled across a blog article a few months back.
I’ve been wanting to write my own blog article on the subject for ages, this week I finally did, collaborating with fellow NSC co-founder, Tassia Agatowski.
The main reason we loathe critique as creatives is because often, it’s done wrong!
It's not just the critics’ fault either.
As creatives, we are often guilty of being too attached to our work, which makes any critique seem personal.
As Chris Do from The Futur says, "Be passionate while creating and detached in the critique... Be passionately detached from your work".
Critiques should objective and constructive — in our blog article, 'The Power of Critique', we discuss some best practices, benefits of doing it right and how to embrace criticism.

Feedback Do’s and Don’ts

How do you provide effective feedback?
It can feel like you are walking on a knife’s edge, but it can be mastered by remembering a few basic principles.
Key takeaway:
Developing feedback skills is like developing a muscle
To develop strong muscles you need regular workouts — just like feedback skills.
Good feedback skills are essential for all designers.
I try to exercise my feedback muscles regularly, but I am by no means a ‘feedback-body-builder’ yet, but I know that these notes help keep me on the straight and narrow.
